Voice-over-Internet-protocol provider Net2Phone Inc. has hooked up another U.S. cable rollout, this time partnering with Atlantic Broadband Inc. to provide voice service to the MSO’s 145,000 subscribers in Pennsylvania.
Atlantic joins a Net2Phone customer list including Liberty CableVision of Puerto Rico Inc., Bresnan Communications, Millennium Digital Media, Northland Communications Inc. and CMA Communications.
Net2Phone provides “turnkey” service to these operators, including installation of the VoIP gear and running the service itself.
On the technology side, Net2Phone is providing Atlantic with PacketCable-technology integration on its cable-data network, as well as the multimedia IP switches through partner Cedar Point Communications Inc. and all of the necessary interconnections with the public switched telephony network.
Net2Phone also runs the service, offering an array of local, domestic and international calling features linked back into Atlantic’s existing customer-care and billing systems.
With that, Atlantic will offer service priced at $29.95 per month when bundled with its existing video or Internet service, or $44.95 monthly for stand-alone voice service. By comparison, Verizon Communications Inc. and Sprint Nextel Corp. offer phone service and features with plans ranging from $30.95-$64.95 monthly.
For Net2Phone, Atlantic’s rollout is part of a trend expanding its service reach to larger cable operators.
“We are pleased with the expanding number of midsized U.S. cable MSOs that have elected to partner with Net2Phone,” said Michael Pastor, Net2Phone’s cable-telephony president. “As we continue to increase the scale of our U.S. customer base, we will develop and introduce additional products, such as commercial services and wireless telephony.”
