Netflix Nets 14 Emmy Nominations

HBO Garners 108 Nods To Lead All Networks

Streaming TV service Netflix crashed the Emmys nominations party Thursday, garnering 14 nods for its original programming, the Television Academy of Arts and Sciences announced Thursday morning.

Overall HBO earned 108 nominations to lead all cable and broadcast networks, according to the Academy. The Emmy Awards winners will be announced live Sept. 22 on CBS.

Netflix's political drama House Of Cards (pictured) earned a best category nod, where it will battle defending champion Showtime’s Homeland, AMC’s Breaking Bad and Mad Men, PBS’ Downton Abby, and HBO’s Game Of Thrones.

House Of Cards stars Kevin Spacey and Robin Wright were also nominated in the best male and female drama categories. Spacey will have to compete against last year’s winner Damian Lewis (Homeland), Hugh Bonneville (Downton Abbey), Bryan Cranston (Breaking Bad), John Hamm (Mad Men) and Jeff Daniels (HBO's The Newsroom).

Wright will face last year’s winner Claire Danes (Homeland), as well as Elisabeth Moss (Mad Men), Michelle Dockery (Downton Abbey),Connie Britton (ABC's Nashville), Vera Farmiga (A&E's Bates Motel), and Kerry Washington (ABC's Scandal).

Jason Bateman, star of Netflix’s Arrested Development, garnered an Emmy nod for lead actor in a comedy series, along with Louis CK (FX's Louie), Don Cheadle (Showtime's House of Lies), Matt LeBlanc (Showtime's Episodes), Jim Parsons (CBS' Big Bang Theory) and Alex Baldwin (NBC's 30 Rock).

HBO’s Veep and Girls,Louie, CBS’ Big Bang Theory and 30 Rock will look to break ABC's Modern Family’s three-year winning streak in the best comedy awards category.

Veep star Julia Louis-Dreyfus will look to make it two straight wins in the best comedy lead actress category against Lena Durham (HBO's Girls), Tina Fey (30 Rock), Laura Dern (HBO's Enlightened), Edie Falco (Showtime's Nurse Jackie) and Amy Poehler (NBC's Parks and Recreation).

Sundance Channel’s Top Of The Lake garnered a surprise nomination in the outstanding miniseries or movie category where it will compete against HBO’s original telepicsBehind the Candelabra and Phil Spector,FX’s American Horry Story: Asylum, USA Network’s Political Animals, and History’s The Bible.

Comedy Central’s Daily Show With Jon Stewart will look to make it 11 straight wins in the best variety series category.

FX's American Horror Story: Asylum was the most nominated show on cable with 17, followed by HBO's Game Of Thrones with 16 Emmy nods, according to the Academy.
