Networks Set Tributes For Houston


(Updated) Cable networks will pay tribute to pop music icon Whitney Houston with several specials celebrating the life of the music icon who passed away Saturday (Feb. 11.)

Houston was found dead in the Beverly Hilton Hotel Saturday afternoon, according to press reports. She was 48 years old.

--BET will pay tribute to Houston Monday with a special three-hour 106 & Park episode beginning at 6 p.m. BET Networks chairman and CEO Debra L. Lee issued a statement Sunday on Houston's untimely passing, saying that, "we are all simply heartbroken by the sudden passing of Whitney Houston. She was among the greatest artists of our time. She was an icon, trailblazer, international phenomenon -- an incomparable talent that will forever be missed. Our prayers and condolences go out to her daughter, mother and her entire family. We will always love her."

--Also Monday, MTV's AMTV music block will feature non-stop Whitney Houston music videos from 6 a.m to 9 a.m. The network wil also develop a Houston tribute special that will showcase Houston's life "in her own words" to air later this week.

In addition, MTV News will continue to break in on-air and cover the story fully online at including musician/celebrity reactions, Whitney Houston's musical and movie legacy, her new summer release Sparkle, and details on what happened inside Clive Davis' party Saturday night with Diddy, Alicia Keys, Ne-Yo, Pitbull and more.

--Lifetime Monday will honor Houston with a presentation of her major motion picture The Bodyguard, also starring Kevin Costner.

--VH1 on Monday will premiere a special, VH1 News Special - Whitney Houston: Death of a Diva, featuring the latest updates on events surrounding her death as well as reactions from attendees at her mentor music mogul Clive Davis's annual pre-Grammy Awards party Saturday night, as well as tributes from officials, artists and music executives and fans.

In addition, VH1's new 100 Greatest Women In Music five-night countdown special premiering Monday will also acknowledge the tremendous loss and salute Houston's legacy and wide-ranging influence. On Feb. 16, VH1 will debut VH1 News Presents Whitney Houston's Greatest Moments, a new special celebrating Houston's legacy by sharing performances from her storied career which included appearances on VH1 Divas in 1999 and 2003, and VH1 Honors in 1996. 

--OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network will present a special two hour Remembering Whitney: The Oprah Interview, with the music legend's last in-depth television interview from The Oprah Winfrey Show to air this Thursday, February 16 from 9-11 p.m. ET/PT on OWN.

--TV One on Tuesday will air a one-hour music video special, Reflections of Whitney, whichwill include a variety of the iconic artist's music performances including some of her most popular and award-winning songs over the past
25 years.

-- TV Guide Network will present a one-hour special on Thursday, Feb. 16, at 8 p.m. ET/PT looking back at the incredible career of this American legend who inspired millions. From Grammy Golden Girl to troubled wife of Bobby Brown, the special reflects on the superstar's biggest moments, best performances and the incredible impact she had on the world of music.

 -- E! Entertainment will air a Feb. 15 special E! News Special: Whitney Houston: Last Days of a Legend. Hosted by Giuliana Rancic, the special will chronicle the events leading up to and immediately after Houston's untimely death, as well as reflect upon her magnificent career and tumultuous personal life.
