Nick Acquires TV Rights To 'Power Rangers' Franchise

Nickelodeon has acquired the television rights to the long-running kids series Power Rangers as part of a deal with production company Saban Brands.
The series will debut on Nickelodeon and Nicktoons in 2011, according to a Nickelodeon spokesperson. Saban Brands, owned by Power Rangers creator Haim Saban, recently purchased the nearly 20-year franchise from The Walt Disney Co.
Along with airing the 18th season of the franchise, which follows a band of uniformed teenagers bound to save the world, Nickelodeon and Nicktoons will also have access to the franchise's more than 700-episode library. Power Rangers was one of the biggest kids-targeted franchises in the mid- and late 1990s, but its popularity waned in recent years under Disney's tenure as more competitors entered the kids television marketplace.
Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
