Nickelodeon has acquired the television rights to the long-running kids-targeted series Power Rangers as part of a deal with production company Saban Brands.
The series will debut on Nickelodeon and Nicktoons in 2011, according to a Nickelodeon spokesperson. Saban Brands, owned by Power Rangers creator Haim Saban, recently purchased the nearly 20-year franchise from The Walt Disney Co.
Along with airing the 18th season of the franchise, which follows a band of uniformed teenagers bound to save the world, Nickelodeon and Nicktoons will also have access to the franchise's library of more than 700 episodes.
The series was one of the biggest kids-targeted franchises in the mid- and late 1990s, but its popularity waned in recent years under Disney's tenure as more competitors entered the kids TV marketplace.
Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
