Nielsen Media Research has finally announced its first two
broadcast-television-network affiliates -- WCVB-TV and WMUR-TV, ABC affiliates
in Boston and New Hampshire, respectively -- for its new local "People Meter"
service in the Boston DMA.
The Hearst-Argyle Television Inc. stations will receive Nielsen's overnight
demographic reports immediately, the ratings giant said Thursday evening.
Previously, Nielsen had signed such cable clients in "Beantown" as AT&T
Broadband, New England Cable News and New England Sports Network; public TV
stations WGBH-TV and WENH-TV; Univision Communications Inc. affiliate WUNI-TV
and independent station WNDS-TV; as well as scores of advertisers, agencies,
cable networks and syndicators.
The new People Meter has replaced Nielsen's set-tuning meters and paper
diaries as ratings-data-collection methods in Boston.
