Tougher customer-service restrictions on cable operators in New Jersey took effect Monday, AP reported.
Under the new rules, operators must:
• Schedule service appointments within four-hour windows;
• Answer customer-service phone calls within 30 seconds;
• Provide credits for service disruptions of three hours or more when customers request them (it had been six hours); and
• Send second notices if they fail to disconnect a customer's service within 30 days of the first shut-off notice.
Violators face fines of up to $1,000 for each infraction.
