New Jersey state regulators Wednesday decided not to vote on a proposed rule change that would have required cable operators to record and report customer complaints, AP reported.

The state Board of Public Utilities deferred action on the changes after breaking off the public portion of its meeting for a two-hour closed session with industry representatives, according to AP.

The proposed change in the definition of a complaint would include problems handled by customer-service representatives in a customer's initial call, rather than counting only problems that have to be addressed by supervisors, AP reported.
