N.J. Township Switches To Cablevision's Optimum Lightpath

Jefferson Township in New Jersey has consolidated voice and Internet services with Cablevision Systems' Optimum Lightpath, a move that will save the local government more than $25,000 annually.

Previously Jefferson Township was using two different providers: MetTel for voice and Tellurian Networks for data.

The township originally signed on as customers of Optimum Lightpath's Internet Voice Bundle, which offered a 20 Megabit per second connection and 50,000 voice minutes per month, in the third quarter of 2010. In the fourth quarter it upgraded to the Hosted Voice offering, which meant the township did not have to pay to replace its legacy Avaya phone system.

About 100 township employees, including the police department, use the voice and data services.

"Police departments and municipalities are becoming extremely tech reliant, so when something goes down, there's a panic," Jefferson Township police captain and director of communications Eric Wilsusen said in a statement. "Jefferson Township needed high performance, good value and solid customer support to serve residents and support day-to-day operations. We found all of this and more in Optimum Lightpath."

Optimum Lightpath's network encompasses more than 4,400 route miles connecting more than 4,500 fiber-lit locations.

Jefferson Township, which has 21,000 residents, is based in Morris County.
