Nortel Picks Up VoIP Wins

Nortel Networks Corp. announced that Adelphia Communications Corp. and Rogers Communications Inc. will use its gear to roll out voice-over-Internet-protocol service in their respective service areas.

Adelphia will deploy Nortel's “Communication Server 2000” compact soft switch, which uses session-imitation protocol for packet connectivity. The MSO will also use Nortel's global-services arm to plan, build, operate and maintain the VoIP network.

Rogers is buying soft switches from Nortel, as well as its “Optical Metro 5200s” and “3500s” for voice transport.
