Nortel Thinking VoIP Interoperability

Nortel Networks said Thursday that it is expanding the compatibility of its voice-over-Internet-protocol and multimedia solutions.

The vendor awarded “Nortel Compatible Product” status -- meaning that a company’s gear successfully demonstrated interoperability with its “Communication Server 2000” superclass soft switch and “Multimedia Communication Server 5200” -- to products from Adax Inc., Arris Group Inc., AudioCodes Ltd., Carrier Access Corp., Entrisphere Inc., Nuera Communications Inc. and Westell Technologies Inc.

Nortel also announced new members of its VoIP- and multimedia-interoperability program, which will participate in extensive testing in the company's lab facilities and, in some cases, at customer premises to achieve interoperability with Nortel's VoIP and multimedia portfolio.

The new members are ADTRAN Inc., Alpha Networks, Dataflex Design Communications Ltd., Mpathix Inc. and T-Metrics Inc.

“Interoperability between vendors' products allows service providers to speed deployment times and to ultimately deliver to the market superior integrated voice, video and data that will enhance how, when and where people communicate with full mobility,” Nortel general manager of service-provider voice networks Ken Pecot said in a prepared statement.
