San Francisco-NorthPoint Communications Inc.said it has lit up its digital-subscriber-line network in Albany, N.Y.; Harrisburg, Pa.; Richmond, Va.; and Sarasota, Fla.. It claims the move will help the company take broadband services to more U.S. homes and businesses than any other service provider. NorthPoint currently offers digital-subscriber line service in 99 U.S. markets.
In August,Verizon Communications-created by the merger ofBell Atlantic Corp.andGTE Corp.-agreed to purchase NorthPoint for roughly $800 million in stock.
