NTL Looks to Unload Irish Systems

U.K. MSO NTL Inc. is taking steps to get out of Ireland.

According to AP, The Irish Times reported that The Goldman Sachs Group Inc. has had discussions with UnitedGlobalCom Inc. and a group of private Irish investors about the potential sale of NTL Ireland, which NTL acquired five years ago for some $800 million.

The unit offers cable-TV services to 340,000 customers, mainly in three cities -- Dublin, Galway and Waterford -- and AP said poor bandwidth leads to frequent frozen images and other transmission glitches.

The Irish Times pegged the likely sale price at $200 million-$265 million, AP reported.
