N.Y. Bar Association Backs Court TV

The New York State Bar Association filed an amicus brief in support of Court TV’s effort to overturn the state law barring cameras in the courtroom.

“We are delighted to have the support of the prestigious New York State Bar Association, which stated in its report, ‘TV coverage plays an important role in improving public understanding of the justice system,’” Court TV CEO Henry Schleiff said in a prepared statement.

“The association's report also confirms Court TV's position that the ‘presence of cameras in courtrooms helps to foster confidence in a justice system designed to protect and ensure our freedoms,’” he added. “Hopefully, the Bar Association's support will resonate with the members of the Court of Appeals, who will now be making the ultimate decision.”
