New York -- Cablevision Systems Corp. won a new 10-year
franchise from the city Thursday.
Under its new agreement, Cablevision agreed to undertake a
five-year, $500 million upgrade of its systems in the Brooklyn and the Bronx. The MSO said
it will provide high-speed data, local telephone service and other interactive two-way
enhancements in the coming years.
Cablevision also pledged to add Internet access to the list
of free services that it provides to public schools.
Cablevision serves more than 500,000 area homes.
