Houston’s Optical Entertainment Network landed a big fish for its content lineup, inking an IPTV deal with Fox Cable Networks to provide all of its programming channels to OEN subscribers.
A fiber-to-the-home service provider, OEN is readying to launch its “Fision” service package featuring IPTV, high-speed Internet, voice and video-on-demand to 1.6 million potential customers in Houston. OEN is now beta-testing the service there, and plans are to launch Fision in the next 60-90 days.
At launch, Fision will have some 400 channels of digital TV, including 50 HD channels, according to OEN.
For its part, Fox will supply FX, Fox Movie Channel, National Geographic Channel, Fox Reality, Fuel, Fox Soccer Channel, Speed Channel, Fox Sports en Español, Fox College Sports and regional sports network FSN Southwest.
OEN also has secured programming deals to offer Discovery Channel, OLN, USA Network, Sci Fi Channel, Showtime, Home Box Office and Starz.
"We are very pleased to become a Fox Cable Networks affiliate and to make their programming available to our subscribers,” said Jo-lynn Foo, OEN’s vice president of programming. “We are dedicated to working with market leaders such as Fox to provide the highest-quality sports and entertainment experiences available in the market today."
The Fision service will also offer broadband Internet service with symmetric throughputs between 10 megabits per second and 100 mbps; VOD and subscription-VOD content; pay-per-view programs; and original HD content created in OEN’s own Houston studios.
The cost for the service package has not been released, but OEN said it will be competitive with other broadband and subscription-TV services.
