OpenTV Corp. said 18.2 million set-tops housed its middleware as of June 30.
That figure follows a second quarter in which about 2.2 million boxes were deployed with OpenTV's set-top software installed, up 47 percent from 1.5 million boxes at the end of the year-ago quarter.
OpenTV said the second quarter of 2001 marked its third consecutive quarter in which more than 2 million set-tops were shipped with its software onboard.
EchoStar Communications Corp., DirecTV Inc.'s Latin America division and
U.K.-based British Sky Broadcasting Group plc continue to be major contributors
to those figures.
On the domestic cable front, OpenTV deployments continue to lag behind its
satellite and international box presence.
However, OpenTV continues to work behind the scenes on a deal with Headend in
the Sky, and it has launched in Half Moon Bay, Calif., via an agreement with USA
