OpenTV Cuts Canadian DTH Deal

Interactive-television-software player OpenTV Corp. said it has inked a
deployment deal with Bell ExpressVu LP, a Canadian direct-to-home satellite
service provider that counts more than 725,000 subscribers.

Bell ExpressVu plans to offer OpenTV-powered interactive-TV services during
the second quarter of this year, featuring interactive weather and 't-commerce'
applications.

In addition to tapping OpenTV's middleware platform, the DTH provider will
also harness OpenTV's in-house production team to build customized
interactive-TV content.

For example, Bell ExpressVu, a wholly owned subsidiary of BCE Inc., said it
plans to incorporate elements of BCE's content portfolio -- which includes the
CTV network, the Sympatico-Lycos Internet portal and The Globe and Mail
newspaper -- into its interactive-TV offering.

Canada's 'mature and sophisticated viewing audience' will embrace interactive
TV quickly, OpenTV president and chief operating officer James Ackerman said in
a press release.
