Motorola Inc. said Tuesday that it signed a five-year licensing and porting agreement for OpenTV Corp.'s interactive-television-middleware products.
Under terms of the deal, Motorola will be able to offer cable and satellite operators a wide range of digital set-tops that are fully integrated and tested with OpenTV's “Core 1.1” middleware.
The agreement also covers a variety of OpenTV extension packages, including support for Motorola's family of set-tops with built-in digital-video-recording capability.
“We are delighted to build upon the long-standing relationship we've enjoyed with Motorola," OpenTV CEO James Ackerman said in a prepared statement.
"This licensing agreement will create new opportunities for both companies by making it easier for operators to quickly deploy a state-of-the-art interactive-TV solution comprised of hardware and software that has already been tested to reliably work together,” he added.
