Optimum Taps Level 3

Level 3 Communications Inc., which owns a 10-gigabit Internet-protocol
backbone that covers 56 North American markets, will provide support services to
Optimum Online, the high-speed-data arm of Cablevision Systems Corp.

Level 3 will supply Optimum with tier-1 Internet access via Level 3's
network. Optimum officials said reliable network performance was a key factor in
giving Level 3 the business.

Separately, Optimum Online is offering an introductory subscription rate of
$19.95 per month through Dec. 31 to new subscribers to the service. The offer
includes a leased modem and self-install kit. After three months, the price
increases to the traditional $39.95 monthly rate for video subscribers, $49.95
for nonvideo subscribers.

Optimum also is offering a prepaid, 12-month subscription, $399 holiday-gift
promotion.

Elsewhere, C-COR.net Corp. said Time Warner Cable is deploying C-COR's
integrated-service-management system's network-service manager in its Oceanic
division, which serves 350,000 subscribers in Hawaii.

The network-service manager is designed to help operators solve network- and
service-management problems.
