Fueled by rollouts from the largest cable operator and direct-broadcast
satellite service, The Outdoor Channel added some 1.8 million subscribers during
December to ring in 2003 in some 20.5 million homes, according to Nielsen Media
CEO Andy Dale said most of its growth last month came from DirecTV Inc.,
which first made Outdoor available Oct. 1 after the Global Outdoors Inc.
subsidiary signed a distribution pact in August.
Dale noted that Comcast launched Outdoor on systems in Savannah, Ga., and its
original market of Tupelo, Miss.
