Outdoor Channel Parent Soars in 3Q

Outdoor Channel Holdings Inc. said Thursday that its third-quarter net income more than doubled to $1.3 million (21 cents per diluted share) from $636,523 (11 cents) in the same period last year.

Third-quarter revenue jumped 45% to $8.4 million from $5.8 million in the year-earlier period.

Subscriber fees from The Outdoor Channel more than doubled to $3 million from $1.4 million in the third quarter of 2002, largely due to subscriber growth and the commencement of carriage fees from one major cable operator that included a contractual retroactive payment of approximately $211,000 for fees due.

As of this month, The Outdoor Channel was available in more than 60 million homes and its subscriber base was more than 24.7 million, Nielsen Media Research estimated.
