Outdoor Channel Reels In Two New Fishing Series

Outdoor Channel Tuesday announced it will debut a pair of new fishing programs Friday, July 4 as part of its Friday Night Fishing programming block.

Network officials said the new shows are part of an initiative designed to provide better-quality programming for its core audience of outdoorsmen and women.

“We've reeled in high-quality shows featuring well-known fishing guides and experts that our viewers already know and love,” Tom Hornish, COO of Outdoor Channel, said in a statement. “Outdoor Channel is the destination for the best outdoor programming, and on Friday nights, we offer the best fishing programs on television.”

The two new fishing programs premiering Friday, July 4 are:

-- Fly Fishing the World—One of the longest-running and most award-winning outdoor programs on TV, it features celebrity guests traveling the globe with the show’s creator and host, John Barrett, in search of the “ultimate angling adventure.”

From the remote Arctic regions of Russia and Iceland to the southern reaches of New Zealand, Barrett has taken celebrities such as Michael Keaton, Matthew Fox, Liam Neeson and Nikki Taylor to some of the most remote and ideal fishing locations in the world. Fly Fishing the World premieres Friday, July 4 at 8:30 p.m. ET.

-- The Catch: Costa Rica—A high-octane competition reality series casts away 12 amateur fishermen and women to Costa Rica where they must live together and out-fish the competition for a chance to reel in $50,000 and the title of “Ultimate Fisherman.”

In the 13-episode series, hosted by Aurelia Riley (pictured) and three fishing experts, the competitors set out to learn the art of angling on the coastal waters of Costa Rica. At the conclusion of each episode, contestants vote to send one angler home. It debuts Friday, July 4 at 10 p.m. ET.
