Ovation TV has acquired the off-network rights to drama series The Tudors as part of an agreement between the network and CBS Television Distribution, network officials said Thursday.
All four seasons of the series, which ran on Showtime from 2007-10, will air on Ovation beginning Aug. 27, said the network.
The series stars Jonathan Rhys Meyers and chronicles of the early years in the reign of England's King Henry VIII from 1520 to 1530, when he divorced his first wife, Catherine of Aragon.
“With the [Oct. 1] Ovation TV premiere of Versailles, we wanted to program another smart, sexy series to whet everyone’s appetite for binge-worthy costume drama and The Tudors fits the bill,” said Scott Woodward, EVP of Programming and Production, Ovation. “This series is another fantastic example of artful storytelling, coupled with exquisite production values, costume and set design and outstanding performances.”
