Oxygen Media said it laid off 80 employees Monday.
Most of the cuts, which represent about 12 percent of its work force, came
from its ThriveOnline.com healthy living Web site, spokeswoman Laura Nelson
said. The content from ThriveOnline has been merged into the company's core Web
site, Oxygen.com, she added.
Oxygen's television operations were not affected by the cuts, Nelson
The majority of the employees who lost jobs were based in Oxygen's San
Francisco office. Employees at its New York headquarters were also included in
the cuts, Nelson added.
'It's a different marketplace today than when we launched the company,' she
Oxygen has scaled back its Web operations significantly since the company was
formed in 1998. Following the layoffs of 65 employees from its Web operations in
December, the company cut 35 employees from the division in April.
About 500 employees remain at Oxygen, Nelson said.
