Oxygen will jump into the sitcom arena in April with a new series from famed production company Carsey-Werner-Mandabach.
The network has commissioned seven episodes of the not-yet-named series, which stars comedian Joy Gohring and actress Bree Turner (The Wedding Planner) as two single 20-something Minnesotians who move to Los Angeles to follow their dreams of becoming famous.
The series is the first live-action scripted skein for the women’s-targeted network: Oxygen teamed up with Black Entertainment Television last year to develop animated comedy Hey Monie, which aired on both networks. Oxygen last year also aired another animated scripted show, Life’s a Bitch.
The series is the first CWM production made specifically for cable. The company -- which owns a minority equity position in Oxygen -- has produced such broadcast and syndicated series as The Cosby Show, Roseanne and Whoopi.
"This series is everything that we love -- it's edgy, young, and outrageous," Oxygen president of programming Debby Beece said. "Carsey-Werner-Mandabach are the masters of the situation comedy, and we are delighted to make a home for their newest venture in primetime on Oxygen."
