Former Federal Communications Commission chairman Michael Powell has joined Providence Equity Partners Inc. as senior adviser, putting his regulatory and business savvy to work for communications investors.
In a press release, the company said Powell will “advise the firm on technology and regulatory issues in the media, communications and information industries, on selected new investment opportunities, and on certain of the firm’s existing investments.”
Powell was named FCC chairman by President Bush in January 2001, and he resigned in March. President Clinton appointed Powell as an FCC commissioner in 1997.
“Michael brings a wealth of experience in media, communications and information, deep knowledge of the changing technology and regulatory environment, and an exceptional network of relationships across the industry,” said Providence CEO Jonathan Nelson.
