New Federal Communications Commission chairman Michael Powell is planning an
unconventional agenda for his first public meeting as chairman, scheduled for
Feb. 22.

Usually, FCC meetings are used to adopt rules or to launch proceedings. But
Powell's first meeting won't involve any of that. Instead, he is asking the
heads of each FCC bureau to provide status reports on key issues and
policies.

FCC spokesman David Fiske said Powell, who became chairman last month, wants
the meeting to be a vehicle for 'taking stock on where the commission
is.'
