The October issue of Lifetime magazine will be the final issue.

The joint effort by Hearst Corp. and The Walt Disney Co. launched in April 2003 in an attempt to migrate Lifetime Television’s success at drawing female cable viewers over to newsstands.

Hearst said 48 New York-based staff members will be offered jobs at other magazines, and Lifetime's publisher and editor in chief will remain with the company.

"While we are proud of the magazine's successful launch, the translation into print was challenging and did not yield the results we anticipated," Hearst said in a prepared statement.
