'Punkin Chunkin' Registers Record Nielsen Liftoff For Science Channel

Punkin Chunkin 2009 catapulted its way to all-time Nielsen marks for Science Channel.
The show, which exults in the annual festival in Delaware where pumpkins become long-range projectiles, averaged 752,000 viewers, 436,households and 504,000 male watchers on Thanksgiving at 9 p.m., according to Nielsen data.
Viewership for Punkin Chunkin was lifted by a multi-media marketing campaign that included an on-air Punkin Chunkin logo takeover of other Discovery Networks; a Punkin Chunkin logo-smash takeover of TLC's Cake Boss billboard in New York City; print advertisements in various national publications; and a new Punkin Chunkin application on Science Channel's Facebook page.
