Q3 Broadband Gains Outpace Video Losses at Mediacom

Mediacom Communications added 13,000 high speed internet customers in the third quarter, a 44% increase over the previous year, fueling a nearly 8% rise in cash flow for the mid-sized cable operator.

The broadband gains outpaced continued subscriber losses on the video side -- video subscribers declined by 18,000 customers, ahead of the 15,000 it lost in the prior year. But the broadband growth was enough to offset those video declines, driving total revenue up 3.5% to $510.6 million and cash flow up 7.8% to $198.3 million.

Capital expenditures were down to $75.9 million from $80.7 million in the prior year. Free cash flow increased 20.8% to $98.5 million in the period.

Mediacom finished Q3 with about 1.32 million broadband customers and 729,000 video customers, mainly in the Midwest and Southeast portions of the country. The fifth largest cable operator in the country is privately held but releases financial figures because it has some public debt.
