Qualcomm Delivers Mobile-TV Chip

Qualcomm announced Monday that its Universal Broadcast Modem chip, which lets mobile handsets support three different video-broadcast technologies, is available in sample quantities.

The UBM product supports Qualcomm’s Flo technology, Digital Video Broadcasting-Handheld (DVB-H) and one-segment Integrated Services Digital Broadcasting-Terrestrial (ISDB-T) in a single chip.

Qualcomm did not name any handset manufacturers that are currently using the UBM chip. The UBM is designed to work with Qualcomm’s CDMA2000 and WCDMA/UMTS Mobile Station Modem baseband chipsets.
