Qwest Doubles Down On DSL Downstream


Denver-Qwest Communications International Inc. said its has doubled the downstream speed of its entry-level digital subscriber line service from 246 kilobytes per second to 640 Kbps, but will not boost its $29.95 monthly service fee.

Qwest said the faster data rates will allow customers to stream "near" full-motion quality video.

By the end of this year, the company said it expects to offer DSL in 72 markets within the 14-state, local phone service region it acquired via its merger with U S West.
