Comcast Corp. executives may want to take note: Qwest Communications
International Inc. won Federal Communications Commission approval to offer
long-distance service in nine states that will include major Comcast cable
markets in Seattle, Denver and Salt Lake City.

Qwest said the FCC approved long-distance entry into Colorado, Idaho, Iowa,
Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, Utah, Washington and Wyoming.

The company said it will announce pricing plans and packaging strategies by
mid-January.

The regional Bell operating company also said it will soon file for
long-distance entry in its other five core local phone states: Oregon, New
Mexico, South Dakota, Arizona and Minnesota.

Some RBOCs have found success in bundling local, long distance and
digital-subscriber-line packages together.
