RCN Done with Manhattan Upgrade

RCN Corp. said Thursday that its network upgrade of customer buildings in Manhattan has been completed.

Its buildings there now have its proprietary two-way-fiber “MegaBand” network, delivering RCN's full suite of cable-TV, phone and high-speed-data services.

Besides RCN’s core triple-play services, the company also offers “MegaModem Mach7” high-speed-data service at 7 megabits per second downstream and up to 800 kilobits per second upstream; multiplayer online gaming; “RCN InterAction Games and Music”; “Impulse On-Demand” video-on-demand; HDTV; and digital-video recorders.

The troubled overbuilder filed a reorganization plan with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York Aug. 23, outlining a plan to pay off its creditors in a debt-for-equity swap and to emerge from Chapter 11 protection by the fourth quarter of this year.
