RCN Corp. will deliver cable-TV and “MegaModem Mach 10” high-speed-data service to several New York University student dorm facilities under terms of a three-year contract announced Wednesday.
The operator said rates for service are included in the fees students pay directly to NYU, and they can opt for additional services, such as premium channels, digital set-tops and video-on-demand.
MegaModem Mach 10 offers speeds of 10 megabits per second downstream and 800 kilobits per second upstream.
“While RCN has been providing cable, Internet and telephone service to NYU for some time, this deal makes it even easier for NYU to provide the best service to its students in New York City,” RCN senior vice president and New York general manager P.K. Ramani said in a prepared statement. “Working with only one service provider greatly simplifies the process of move in/move outs for both students and NYU's administration.”
