RCN Corp. began pitching a supercharged 'MegaModem' high-speed Internet
service in San Francisco and Los Angeles, boasting that the service offers
download speeds of up to 3 megabits per second, double its regular 1.5-mbps
rate.

'While other broadband providers are limiting their download speeds or
cracking down on so-called bandwidth hogs, we've been working to give our
customers even faster speeds at a terrific value,' CEO David McCourt said in a
prepared statement.

RCN said it'll charge subscribers of its 'ResiLink' video, telephony and
high-speed-data packages an additional $10 per month for MegaModem speeds. A la
carte customers will pay $25 per month.
