RCN Corp. is throwing the home-networking net wider, announcing that it has
debuted the service in the Philadelphia and Lehigh Valley, Pa., markets.

The competitive cable provider's home-networking service -- first unveiled in
Boston in June -- provides either a wireless Wi-Fi or wired Ethernet
home-networking system with installation, PC cards, firewall, parental controls
and around-the-clock technical support.

With the one-time $49 installation fee to connect a single computer waived,
it costs $99.95 to connect a second PC or device, with each additional computer
costing $49.95 to connect. In addition, customers pay $14.95 monthly to maintain
the service.

And the rollout in Comcast Corp.'s home territory won't be the last -- RCN
plans to roll out the service to additional markets during the next few
months.

"Our customers have told us they want a simple and easy way to allow all of
their PCs and game consoles in the house to have high-speed Internet access,"
said Rick Rioboli, vice president of product management and development, in a
release.

"Our ‘Home Networking’ package -- which includes a professional installation
and ongoing 24/7 customer support -- provides that and more," he
added.
