RCN Taps Into McAfee Web Software

RCN Corp. is the latest cabler to beef up its online-security offerings for
cable-modem customers, signing a pact with Network Associates Inc. to market and
sell the McAfee product line.

Under the deal, RCN will offer customers the option to sign up for Network
Associates' "McAfee Security" service starting in the second quarter. That
includes virus scan, firewall privacy and spam-killing software.

Customers who sign up and pay for the software will also receive "McAfee
Security Center," a set of security tools that can alert them about Internet
threats in progress, determine their vulnerability and provide additional
security information via McAfee's database.

"Providing RCN users with our regularly updated McAfee security solutions
takes the onus off the user in ensuring that their PC is safe and secure against
the latest Internet threats," said Todd Gebhart, vice president, managed
services and original-equipment manufacturing at Network Associates. "We are
confident that RCN users across the country will find our security services a
valuable addition to their desktops."

RCN follows a recent wave of cablers inking deals with Network Associates for
the McAfee software, including Cox Communications Inc. and Comcast
Corp.
