RCN Corp. is in hot water with the city of Chicago again.
For the second year in a row, the operator has failed to meet its obligation to pay $215,000 to CAN TV, the city’s local cable-access network, the Chicago Tribune reported Wednesday.
The payment -- stipulated in RCN’s franchise agreement with the city -- was due Jan. 7.
RCN local-market manager Marc Miller told the Tribune the operator had not paid CAN TV because it is seeking modifications in its agreement with the city, including changes in the way its local-access fees are determined.
RCN is also seeking to get out of an agreement calling for it to offer cable service in much of the city, company and Chicago officials told the Tribune. The operator currently serves an area running along the lake from downtown to Rogers Park.
Connie Buscemi, spokeswoman for the city Department of Consumer Services, told the Tribune RCN has not given the city a satisfactory reason for its failure to pay CAN TV.
