'Real World' Heads to Texas

The Real World, MTV: Music Television’s pioneering reality series, heads to Austin, Texas, to mark its sweet 16th.

Production on the next installment of the Bunim-Murray Productions stalwart is slated to begin in the first quarter. The first of 24 episodes, following seven strangers in a house in that city over a four-month period, is scheduled to premiere next June, according to MTV officials.

Currently in its 15th season from Philadelphia, The Real World ranks first in its time period among persons 12 to 34, according to the network.

The Real World XIV: San Diego

, the highest-rated season in the franchise’s history, reached over 100 million viewers 2+ this year, and was the most-watched series on cable among the 12-to-34 set.

"Austin is one of the most dynamic and diverse cities in the United States," said Lois Curren, executive vice president, MTV Series Entertainment in a prepared statement. "As the live music capital of the nation and home to a thriving college community, Austin is the perfect backdrop for The Real World’s 16th season."
