Seattle-RealNetworks Inc., a leader in streaming-media delivery on the Internet, and nCUBE, a provider of streaming-media hardware and solutions, announced a marketing and distribution agreement last week.
The agreement integrates nCUBE's "MediaCube 4" video-on-demand streaming platform with RN's new "RealSystem 8" streaming-media software, which offers service providers, enterprises and broadcasters a complete, scalable server infrastructure.
The joining of the two will deliver a high-bit-rate streaming-media platform that supports the RTSP/RTP (Real-Time Streaming Protocol/Real-Time Protocol) streaming-media standards and high quality content to consumers. It will offer streaming video at speeds beginning at 200 kilobits per second and climbing to multimegabit rates.
With the ability to scale to tens of thousands of simultaneous users, it will allow cable operators, telcos and Internet-service providers to deploy an economical broadband streaming-media VOD system.
