Recall Not Generating Big Ad Dollars

The big ad bucks expected to be generated by the well-publicized California
governor-recall campaign slated for Oct. 7 have yet to materialize for local
stations and cable operators, particularly in the Los Angeles DMA, sources
said.

Adlink vice president and general sales manager Rick Oster said Thursday that
the Los Angeles interconnect has booked time for Republican candidate Arnold
Schwarzenegger, independent Arianna Huffington and Democratic Lt. Gov. Cruz
Bustamante.

The latter is believed to have spent the most on Los Angeles TV and cable --
about $2.8 million of the total $4 million spent thus far, Oster estimated.

Oster is now projecting just $8 million in recall-related ad spending in Los
Angeles, down from early estimates of $20 million.
