SundanceTV said it has ordered a third season of Rectify, two days ahead of its second-season finale. The drama, about a man released from prison after nearly two decades on death row on the basis of DNA evidence and his struggles to re-adapt to life in his small Southern town, is the AMC Networks outlet's first wholly owned original scripted series. The network announced the renewal on the show's Twitter account. The third season will air in 2015.
Sarah Barnett, SundanceTV president, said in a release: “Rectify has evolved into a show much loved by critics and fans. As SundanceTV’s first scripted series, it’s gratifying to see such distinctive and unusual storytelling embraced with such passion. Ray McKinnon is a true television auteur, and we can’t wait to see where he takes us next.”
Rectify is created and written by Ray McKinnon and executive produced by Mark Johnson and Melissa Bernstein. Aden Young stars as Daniel Holden, and cast members also include Abigail Spencer, J. Smith Cameron, Luke Kirby, Clayne Crawford, Adelaide Clemens and Jake Austin Walker. The show is shot on location in Griffin, Ga.
