Reelz Gets NYC Berth on Time Warner Cable

ReelzChannel, the movie-related programming service, will join Time Warner Cable’s digital lineup in New York City on March 12, part of a channel shuffle at the cable company’s operation in Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens and Mount Vernon, N.Y.

The Hubbard Broadcasting-owned channel, which in January launched on Comcast’s system with 1.4 million subscribers in nearby Northern New Jersey, will be placed on channel 131, Time Warner Cable of New York & New Jersey said on its Web site in a notice dated Feb. 14. ReelzChannel previously claimed about 35 million subscribers. Time Warner Cable's New York City operations have more than 1 million digital cable subscribers, according to the company.

A Time Warner Cable representative did not return a phone call seeking comment Monday. ReelzChannel had no comment.

Other March 12 changes at Time Warner Cable’s operation in the three New York City boroughs include:

-- Moving top-rated regional sports channel YES Network to channel 53 from 30 and moving YES HD to channel 753 from 730;

-- Moving business-news programmer Bloomberg TV to channel 30 from 104, while retaining it as a digital service;

-- Moving the biggest U.S. Spanish-language cable network, Galavision, to channel 69 from 53, and adding it to the DTV en Espanol service level.

The Woodside, Queens, system will be launching the Time Warner Cable-owned NY1 HD service, on channel 701, the cable operator said. And AZN is being dropped on April 9, as it is being shut down by owner Comcast.
