Research: Home Nets Going Mainstream

SCOTTSDALE, ARIZ. -Home networks are moving beyond the early-adopter stage, Cahners In-Stat Group, a sister company to Multichannel News, revealed in a recent study.

Citing a survey of 1,000 households, In-Stat said that home networks' appeal has broadened beyond the technology junkie as more consumers come to understand the benefits of the technology.

In-Stat said it found the home-network owner is more likely to have access to a broadband, always-on connection and own a spate of devices such as CD-ROM burners, digital satellites and video-game consoles.

According to In-Stat's research, a consumer's primary purchasing decision for home networking equipment was to share Internet access, printers and to distribute digital music to other devices.
