There won’t be any more gawking in Times Square – at least up to studio at 1515 Broadway.
After a decade, MTV is pulling the plug on TRL, the video music countdown show that helped launch the careers of such pop stars as Britney Spears and N’Sync, among others, as well as host Carson Daly.
Dave Sirulnick, executive producer of TRL, told the Associated Press Monday that the music video countdown show will conclude in a two-hour special on a Saturday afternoon in November. Sirulnick stressed that the show wasn't ending for good, but felt now was the right time to give it a break after an unprecedented run on the cable music channel.
TRL bowed in September 1998 and often inspires teens and tweens to assemble in Times Square and stare up the studio housing the musical guests at MTV's Manhattan headquarters.
