Venturing into enemy terrain, Comcast Corp. chairman and CEO Brian Roberts is planning to address the United States Telecom Association convention in October in Las Vegas.
Roberts will share top billing with Verizon Communications chairman and CEO Ivan Seidenberg.
"As we have clearly seen this past year, the communications industry is rapidly converging. Industry executives will look forward to hearing Brian Roberts' perspectives on new technologies and business strategies in this constantly evolving environment," USTA president Walter McCormick said.
Local phone companies have looked upon the cable industry with jealousy because cable companies face less regulation that phone companies, especially in the offering of high-speed-data services.
In previous remarks, Roberts has said that regulators should look for ways to free phone companies from regulation, rather than adding new burdens to cable in order to create parity between the two industries.
