Roberts: Customization Is Key

Comcast Corp. chairman and CEO Brian Roberts is a fan of customization.

In an interview to air on PBS’ CEO Exchange, the MSO head said the customization of entertainment -- including single downloads of sporting events -- is the wave of the future, according to AP.

Roberts said digitized signals will find an outlet beyond television wherever they can be accommodated, such as on Apple Computer Inc. “iPods” and cellular phones, adding that consumers increasingly will be able to buy content a la carte, such as single episodes of CBS’ CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, AP reported.

He said while viewers will still watch sporting events predominantly over live TV, there is a place for downloading single repeats of games or ESPN shows, adding, “I would be interested in [ESPN’s] SportsCenter on-demand or [the National Football League] on replay.”
