Roberts to Testify Before Senate Panel

Comcast Corp. CEO Brian Roberts is scheduled to testify before the Senate Commerce Committee May 12 as that panel considers changes to the Telecommunications Act of 1996, which relaxed price regulation of some cable-programming services.

Also scheduled to testify are Ivan Seidenberg, chairman and CEO of Verizon Communications; Scott Ford, CEO of Alltel Corp.; Garry Betty, CEO of EarthLink Inc.; and Delbert Wilson, former CEO of Central Texas Telephone Cooperative Inc.

Earlier in the week at the National Show in New Orleans, Roberts decried efforts on Capitol Hill led by Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), chairman of the Commerce Committee, and Rep. Nathan Deal (R-Ga.) that would impose a la carte mandates on cable operators or programmers.
